About Me:
Hi, I’m Sarah the designer and owner of Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos. I have always had a passion for sewing and growing up, as I was tall, often sewing my own clothing was the only way to find something that would fit! Hats & headwear have always played a big role in my wardrobe and I really don’t feel my look is complete without something on my head!
I believe in creating things mindfully and each of my pieces of headwear is designed to last and be worn, again and again. I work hard to keep waste to a minimum, often reusing leftover fabric in my other designs or choosing upcycled and deadstock fabrics.
My pieces are often one of a kind and all are designed and handmade by me from my little terraced house in Bedford (UK) where I live with my rescue dog Luca & musician partner Tom.
After several years working in various marketing roles I realised I wanted to go out on my own and get back to my big passion, creating things, so I set up own business in 2011. Sarah's Doo-Wop Dos actually started out as a vintage hair and make-up service and I would work from a pop up salon at various vintage events before setting up a home styling salon. Over the years the business slowly developed and I got back into my first big passion which is sewing & sold my first vintage inspired headwear design back in 2016!
From there the brand grew, I started an Etsy shop and then moved onto my own website and my stylish versions of iconic vintage headwear such as the classic 1940s turban and landgirl headscarf were hugely popular and became central to my brand. Then in 2023 I started trying new things and as someone who has always shopped second hand and enjoys charity shopping I decided to add a small curated collection of true vintage headscarves to my website, this proved very popular.
