Vintage Hair Tutorial - Simple Rolled Fringe

Vintage bumper bangs tutorial
As most of you know this is my go to style of fringe. I have always love the way it adds so much volume and is such a structured style with a lot of drama and yet it’s relatively easy to achieve plus it pairs so well with my vintage style headbands and turbans

Bumper bangs, rolled fringe, whatever you call this style it’s a great one to learn and as you can see below can be worn in a variety of ways.

You will need: A few elastic hairbands, hair grips, rat-tailed comb and soft bristle brush, fine hairnet.

Tutorial Steps.

Step 1: Start by creating a large-ish ponytail at the front of your head. Don’t make it so tight that it’s uncomfortable but not too loose or it won’t hold well. If you already have a fringe just add that in at the start and it’ll blend in. You can roughly use the arch of your eyebrows as a guide for how big to make the section.

Step 2: Now backcomb the underside of the ponytail section using your rat-tailed comb. This will create volume and structure and help create that big round fringe look. Then you will need to roll the hair forward, I tend to do it a couple of times as it usually gets better with each go.

Step 3: Once you have the hair rolled into a shape you like you can pin it in place with some hair grips. I pin one on either side of the roll opening first and then a couple in the middle. I like to curve the fringe slightly so I go back and adjust the fringe shape & my hair grips a little at either end to create a more ‘horse shoe’ type shape.

Step 4: Then smooth the outside of the fringe a little and give it a spritz of hairspray. Once that is dry add on your fine hairnet and secure it in place with more hair grips at the top of your head. A hairnet will keep the fringe neat all day and gives you some extra hold.

Step 5: Now you can take the rest of your hair and give it a good brush through and to finish the look here I put the hair up onto a messy bun and just arranged it a little to give some volume.

Vintage Style Headband:
You can add a Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos vintage style headband, this one is the Princess Knot. A headband works really well with this style and can be tucked in behind the fringe. If you pop the rest of your hair up in a bun this makes for a stylish, practical and quick finish to this look.

1940s Style Turban:
Or you cover the rest of your hair with a Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos turban. When I wear my turban I tend to put the rest of my hair into a bun, ponytail or plait and then tuck it into the turban. If you want some extra hold you can add a few hair grips at the back for support. If you want to watch my styling video for this style you can find here on YouTube.

Hair down: And finally if you have a little bit more time on your hands why not wear the back of your hair down.
