Vintage Hair Tutorial - Curled Fringe With 2 Finishes & A Headband.

I haven’t done a vintage hairstyle to  specifically wear with one of my stretchy, jersey, pre-tied headbands yet so I thought I’d do a tutorial for this stunning curled fringe look. This hairstyle is such a great versatile one to learn as you can finish it in a variety of ways and I’m showing you 2 ways below. It‘s a great summer style so give it a try! 

Inspiration: This style is very much inspired by the curled styles of the 1940s and as you can see in the pictures above you can even leave the back loose or put it up to create a more ‘poodle’ style updo. It works equally well with defined pin- curls or a more relaxed pile of curls, my personal favourite way to do it.

You will need: A rat tailed comb, soft bristled brush, hair grips, elastic hairbands, 2 hairnets, hairspray, pun curl clips, curling tong & a Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos headband.

Preparation: For this style I would suggest curling your hair with your preferred method first whether that’s rollers, a curling tong or a wet set. This will make the hair much easier to work with.

Step 1:  Start off by sectioning a fringe type area off with an elastic hairband.

Step 2: You want to arrange the curls in place in a nicely haphazard fashion with some good volume. You can use some pin-curl clips to hold the curls in place while you play around with the placement until you have the shape you want.

Step 3: Once you are happy with how you have the curls placed get your hair grips and pin them in place. If you end up flattening the curls when pinning them just make sure you go back in and give them a little help to stand back up as you want this style to have some height.

Step 4: Finish with a little spray of hairspray and once that’s set you can add a fine hair net over for extra hold and shape.

Step 5: Now put on your Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos headband and settle it in place. If you need to secure it in place you can pop a hair grip either side of the knot. My headbands are stretchy so go on easily and are pre-styled so they have the knots sewn in place. They are available in a variety of colours and styles shop the collection. Step 6: Once you are happy with where you have the headband you can finished off the style  in one of the following ways.

A. Put the rest of your curled hair up into another ponytail and again pin the curls into place filling the space behind the headband. Once you are happy with how it looks use the 2nd hairnet to secure it all in place. The headband shown above is the Workwear knot.

B. Leave the back of your hair down and just brush through the curls, shaping them into a soft 1940s look. You can pop a hairnet on for extra hold and keep those curls neatly in place. The headband show here is the Princess knot.
