Ways To Wear A Tilt Hat.
Below are some great photos of different styles of 1940s hats and as you can see they are often worn perched on the side of the head or tilted to one side.
For this photo session I decided to style my hair a little with a couple of side twists (sort of cheat victory rolls) to add some shape. You can watch my styling video on how to create this ever so quick and simple style at the bottom of this blog.
So let’s start talking styling, below are 3 easy ways to wear your Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos 1940s style tilt hat…
To One Side - This is probably the way I wear these hats the most. They sit so well just tilted to the side and to secure them in place is so simple too, just pop the hat elastic under your hair and if you want any extra hold you can add a couple of hair grips. These hats actually have a flat, felt base so they rest on the side of your head and are very lightweight and comfy to wear.
At the front - This look ups the drama and is also great if you don’t want to have to style your hair too much as the hat does all the talking. I had my hair in simple twists at the side here and just scrapped my fringe back so the hat covered it. I left the back of my hair loose and straight but you could also curl the back for a 1940s hair down look which I think would work really well.
With a snood - The snood is another vintage hair accessory I love! These knitted hairnets are an invaluable part of your styling kit and can be easily picked up on sites like Etsy and EBay. I use mine to cover the back of my hair and add some volume to a look. It pairs so well with a tilt hat and adds some extra 40s style to the look. Adding a snood is also another quick and easy way to style your hair and especially handy if you are at an outdoor event as it’ll keep your hair in place even in the wind.
