Creating A Hairstyle For A Vintage Witch Hat.

vintage witch

The first chill of autumn on the breeze and I dig out the pumpkin decor and put on my witch hat!

See how I created this fun, vintage witch look by following the steps below.  This curly, vintage hair down style will work beautifully with my new Sarah Sprout Collection witch hats and is a great look to master.

Steps:

Step 1: I got my supplies together for hair curling. I have super thick hair so I use heated rod curlers for the bottom of my hair and my hair tong for the top to create elevated pin curls.

Step 2: I quickly did my make-up, went with a darker witchy take on my usual vintage look.

Step 3: I popped some product through my hair to help it hold a curl and then curled my fringe with my trusty hair tong.

Step 4: I then put my fringe in a foam roller to let the curl set while I did the rest of my hair.

Step 5: I curled my hair section by section, working top to bottom. I did smaller sections at the top using curling tongs and pin curl clips, then used my heated curlers for the bottom and back of the head, the areas I find trickier.

Step 6: I took my time and kept sections small to create tight curls. I then let the curls cool.

Step 7: I used one of my stretchy, jersey, pre-tied turbans to cover my curls and hold them in place for a while while they set and I did some bits of work while I waited. As a safety tip, I didn’t put the turban on straight away when the rollers were still hot, they had cooled before I put it on.

Step 8: Once the curls had time to really set I started taking out the rollers and pin-curls. I broke up the curls with my fingers at first to break them up a little.

Step 9: Then I brushed the curls through with my favourite soft bristled brush. This always takes longer than I imagine and is generally the stage where I start panicking that it's not going to be a nice style, but as I brush more it starts to look good.

Step 10: I then gathered hair grips and a hairnet. I did try the hairnet on but I ended up not using it as I preferred the fluffier, longer curls and how they framed my face out of the net.

Step 11: I then took each front section of hair by my ears and twisted them up into a little twist. This gave some volume to the look and I then popped several hair grips in to keep them in place.

Step 12: Once I was happy with both sides, it took a few goes, I gave the curls a finally brush before putting on the witch hat.

 Final Look:

vintage witchMy new vintage style witch hats are made of modern, secondhand hats that I have refashioned and styled into one-of-a-kind hats inspired by my favourite era of hats, the 1940s. These hats have elastic so the are easy to wear and are designed to be worn tilted, like many hats of the 40s, perching on the head.

Obviously you don't need to create such an elaborate hairdo to wear one of these hats but if you do fancy giving it a try it's certainly a fun style to try for spooky season or as part of a Halloween look.
